I've been really impressed with a lot of the designs you've done on this site and the couple others you've shown me. And consider the fact that anyone asking you to build a website isn't going to know any of the technical or design stuff themselves. So if you violate some little known tenet in your design, but the site still looks and works great they'll be happy. ;) Considering that, I'd say you know all you need to know to get started doing this for a living, if that's what you wanna do.
