Bukkit

It sounds like if I can get Bukkit up and running, it will at least restore /home, /sethome, and /spawn functionality. There should eventually be a /warp plugin or something, but the aforementioned /home and /spawn will at least make it feasible to explore again. I’ll try to work on getting it installed later today.

PSA – no more /home

Okay, so apparently Notch removed the /home command from vanilla SMP. And hMod/hey0 is dead and will not be updated for the beta. So, until Bukkit (an hMod replacement) gets up and going, Minecraft is pretty sucky for SMP. I’ll look into other mods that at least re-enable /home, but don’t hold your breath.

Beta 1.2

The server’s been updated to version 1.2. hMod will be updated when it’s ready. As always, beware /home, no warps, etc. Environmental damage is back.

Patch notes:

New features:
* Note blocks (right click to tune, trigger to play)
* 15 wool dyes
* A new water dwelling mob
* New tree types
* Reeds magically turned into sugar canes. They still make paper.
* A bunch of new crafting recipes

* Paintings work in multiplayer
* Disconnecting while riding no longer keeps the player in the world
* A bunch more state is properly synched in multiplayer

* Fixed a horrible chunk reload loop in singleplayer
* Fixed most lighting bugs in newly generated SMP maps
* Falling sand behaves better in SMP
* Fixed a few crash on load level bugs

hey0 updated

Hey guys, sorry about the delay in getting hMod updated to the beta version. It’s up and running now, if anyone is still playing.

With the advent of the Beta and its server-side inventory, tools no longer auto-regenerate when you throw them on the ground.

Minecraft goes Beta

Well, Minecraft finally went to beta status, with version 1.0_01. Metatopia is updated, but hey0/hmod isn’t yet. I’ll fix that when they get released. As always, /home carefully!

Edit: hey0 is apparently away until the 24th, so there won’t be an hMod update til then.

Server updated

Metatopia has been updated to version 0.2.6_02. As usual, no hMod (hey0) goodies until he gets that updated – that means no /kit, /warp, and /home takes you back to spawn, not your /sethome.

Also, new face for the blog. I haven’t actually tested on anything other than Firefox, so let me know if there are bad issues on other browsers (IE, I’m looking at you >.< ).

Server down

Looks like the server isn’t accepting outside connections, so Metatopia will be down until I get home this evening. I checked this morning before work, and it seemed to be running okay, but I can’t connect or SSH in from work, so I guess something got borked. Sorry for the downtime.

There’s also a minor bugfix update that I need to load too, but that will also have to wait until this evening.

Edit: Notch claims to be doing another semi-major SMP update tomorrow, so I’ll probably hold off on patching up the server until that comes out. The minor update doesn’t require a server update, so we should be fine until then.

Edit2: Server should be accessible now. Jon is supposed to work on getting the server a static internal IP so this sort of thing doesn’t happen (had to reset the router last night, which caused the server to get a new IP on our internal network, which caused the port forwarding on the router to fail since it was pointing to the wrong IP~).
